Leoz/Leotz

Leoz/Leotz, in the Orba Valley or Valdorba, is a municipality made up of three council districts (Leoz, Olleta, Iracheta), nine small settlements (Artariain, Amunarrizqueta, Uzkita, Sansomain, Benegorri, Bézquiz, Amatriain, Sansoain and Maquirriain) and the Seigniory of Iriberri. The municipality boasts a remarkable architectural and historical legacy.

Its main monuments include the Church of La Natividad in Leoz, the Parish Church of La Asunción in Olleta, the Church of San Pedro in Sansomain and the Parish Church of Santa Catalina in Maquirriain. The Iratxeta granary, a remarkable example of rural architecture, should not be overlooked.

Leoz’s archaeological remnants includes Neolithic flint workshop and documents recording its ties to Pamplona cathedral dating back to the 12th century. Its heritage also includes the former palace that was the seat of people holding the armoury corporal title and associated with local noble families. Farming and traditional festivities, particularly the one celebrating the patron saints in each village, continue to mark the rhythm of life here in this place deeply rooted in its cultural and natural environment.
