Olóriz/Oloritz, in the Valdorba Valley, is a Navarrese municipal district where landscape, history and heritage come together in a diverse territorial structure. At 23 km from Pamplona, its 40 km² includes the Echagüe, Mendívil, Olóriz and Solchaga council districts, along with Oricin and its surroundings, the Eristain and Lepuzain hamlets, and the Seigniory of Bariáin. The town hall is in the centre of Olóriz.

The municipal district stretches from the Sierra de Alaiz to the right bank of the River Cidacos, at heights ranging between 520 and 1100 metres. Its landscape includes eroded glacis, ravines such as the Oricin and Mairaga ones, and agricultural areas to the south. The climate is continental Mediterranean with cold winters and hot summers, and its vegetation includes gall oaks, Aleppo pines and conifers.

The town has traces of its medieval past, including the Cabo de Armería Palace that was the seat of people holding the title of armoury corporal, the first documented reference to which was in the 14th century, and linked to noble families such as the Olóriz, Itúrbide and Santa María.

The religious heritage is striking: the Parish Church of San Bartolomé, in the proto-Gothic style with Cistercian influences, is noted for its rectangular nave, semi-circular transept and a pointed portico. There are also Romanesque places of worship, such as the Shrine Chapel of San Pedro de Etxano, the Church of Santa María de Eristáin and the Shrine Chapel of Santa María de Arrazubi. Solchaga is home to the church of the same name and also boasts unusual features such as the cave press.

The patron saint’s festivities to honour St. Bartholomew are held on 24 August. The local cuisine includes traditional products such as chistorra sausage, stuffed peppers, goat’s cheese and typical Navarrese dishes that are served in public festivities.
